Is it possible to use the question library "Highlighting Custom Ranges" on mobile devices?

We used the question library "highlighting custom ranges" and it is not working on mobile devices.  Any workarounds?

Many mobile devices may lack the input functionality necessary to support "Highlighting: Custom Ranges."  Would showing these respondents "Highlighting: Words" be useful for you?  That question could be modified to define selectable ranges beyond just every word if needs be.
Thanks Zachary!  That would work okay - how would I set that up to have phrases instead of just words?

To start, delete lines 51-84 from the footer of the free format question within "Highlighting: Words."

Then, we need to add "span.highlightingSpan" elements around the portions of the text that we want to be selectable.  Here's an example you can use as a reference:
