How to have user create a hierarchy or order in answers

Hello,

Suppose you have 5 brands:
a)
b)
c)
d)
e)

How can a user rate which one is on positon 1, 2 and so on until 5.
Each answer should be available only once, that means that no two brands can be on the same positon. How is that possible with checkboxes? Free text or radio buttons?

Why not just use the "Ranking" question available within SSI Web?  It sounds like you are trying to accomplish a ranking of these 5 items, and this question type automatically forces each brand to get a unique ranking of best (1) through worst (5).

One way to do this would be to implement a drag and drop ranking question.  Respondents would see 5 items on the screen and would move them from top to bottom based the rank order.
